Online Concealed Carry Training Scam

Recently there have been some sightings of these facebook web ads stating that you can take an online course to get your Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit. This is nothing more than click bait. 

According to the Louisiana State Police:
D.(1) In addition to the requirements of Subsection C of this Section, an applicant shall demonstrate competence with a handgun by any one of the following: 
(a) Completion of any National Rifle Association handguns safety or training course conducted by a National Rifle Association certified instructor within the preceding twelve months. 
(b) Completion of any Department of Public Safety and Corrections approved firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law enforcement agency, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school within the preceding twelve months. 
(c) Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class approved by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and offered for correctional officers, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement within the preceding twelve months. 
You must complete a Louisiana State Police approved course with a certified NRA or POST Instructor.

FISH device catches global attention

Elementary students mentored at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have earned international acclaim for a device they created to combat dead zones that wipe out marine life and habitat. Team Phoenix, a group of students from Lafayette whose ages range from 11 to 14, claimed one of two runner-up awards in the recent Global Innovation competition in Washington, D.C. Their Floating Island Sustainable Habitat, or FISH, project was one of 20 semifinalists selected from 130 submissions from 29 countries. It consists of a grid of interlocking, floating panels made of biodegradable plastic. The porous network supports root growth and holds plants that absorb nutrients. Excess nutrients can cause dead zones, such as one in the Gulf of Mexico. BRPD to host free self defense class for women

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department is hosting an Equalizer Women's Self Defense class.  The class will be held at the BRPD Training Academy, located at 9000 Airline Hwy. in Baton Rouge. Class times are from 6 to 10 p.m. for each session. Session 1: Tuesday, August 1 Session 2: Thursday, August 3 Session 3: Tuesday, August 8 Session 4: Thursday, August 10 The class is free and open to all women ages 13 and up. Participants should wear comfortable clothing suited for physical activity.
